Faith and Focus: Living the Moments That Matter
There’s something holy about ordinary days—the kind that start with coffee on the porch, a jar of spring flowers on the kitchen counter, and end with dinner around the table. I’ve come to believe these are the moments that matter most. And they’re so easy to miss when we’re rushing, striving, or distracted.
This spring has been full—Purdue graduation sessions, chasing golden light across campus, and cheering on seniors dreaming of the future. But it’s also been full at home.
Our son Nate came home this week on leave from the USAF, and even though my work schedule is packed, I’ve been soaking up every moment I have with him. We thrifted (a shared favorite), grabbed lunch, and had a sweet family dinner with Wes and Anna.
Three out of four kids around the table—what a gift. We sure missed Robyn and her family dearly - and wish Texas wasn’t so so so far away!! But I’m thankful for FaceTime chats and moments with Robyn and Brecken, even from miles away.
EASTER SUNDAY pictures
Chris has been in full-on spring cleanup mode, picking up sticks and rolling the yard, and Nate and I pulled out the porch furniture to welcome the warmer weather. There’s something about a fresh porch and sunshine that just slows the soul.
Nate came home on leave to go Turkey Hunting with Chris and Ethan. Turkey hunting is a hobby they have enjoyed together for years. I’m praying that they each get a turkey and that they fill up their hearts with wonderful memories and hunting stories! Hopefully, next week I will have pictures to share from their hunts.
Our orchard is in full bloom: Peaches, Apples and Cherries!! Praying for a good crop.
The Gift of Being Present
This week reminded me how precious it is to simply be present.
Not perfect. Not always productive. Just there.
The world tells us to hustle harder, scroll more, and fill every square on the calendar.
But real life—the good stuff—happens between the lines.
It’s found in thrift store laughs, front porch conversations, and impromptu dinners. It is found in running to Menards with my husband and in texts with friends.
I’m learning (sometimes the hard way) that presence is the greatest gift we can give.
Not our perfection. Not our performance. Just our hearts—showing up fully for the people God has placed in our lives.
Life Isn’t Always Easy—But It’s Always Worth Noticing
Wes and Ann continue to head to the clinic in Indy twice a week. Praise report: Initial results have shown shrinkage in tumors! You can follow along with his journey and get updates and prayer requests on his CaringBridge page.
These porch chats, family dinners, and sunshine-filled moments—
they don’t make the hard go away, but they remind me we’re still here.
Still together. Still laughing. Still living.
If you’re in a season that feels weary, rushed, or uncertain, can I encourage you?
Don’t wait for the big, perfect moments to start living.
The sacred is already here—tucked into our Monday morning, our car rides, evening dishes, laundry baskets and our dinner tables.
We must just open our hands and hearts and receive it.
A Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the small, sacred moments that fill our days—
porch chats, family meals, spring sunshine, and secondhand treasures.
Help me to live with eyes wide open, heart wide open, and arms wide open to the people You’ve given me.
Slow me down, Lord.
Remind me that I don’t have to chase after meaning,
it’s already here, in the ordinary moments I too often rush past.
Let me live with intention, grace, and gratitude.
And when life gets hard, remind me You are still near.
Still faithful. Still writing a beautiful story through it all.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Until next time, friend— Stay rooted, stay joyful, and keep noticing the beauty.
Also- If you are a local friend- Want to come over and join me for a porch visit? Just call or send a text! I would love to visit!
With love,
Heather 🌸
