Where is a good place in the Lafayette / West Lafayette area to get our family pictures taken?
Have you ever stressed about where to get your pictures taken? You want a great view, convenient location, and easy for the family (especially if there are young children involved).
As a Lafayette / West Lafayette Indiana Area wedding and family photographer I have photographed at lots of great locations and have a good list to share with you.
Fortunately the Lafayette area has several really great locations to choose from. There is lots of good urban architecture and many beautiful parks.
In earlier blog posts I wrote about the Haan Museum , Fairfield Lakes Park, Celery Bog Nature Area, and Purdue University Campus. Those four places are always great spots for pictures.
However, with all that said-

Your own home! Yes! At your very own home!
Why your own home makes for a great picture location:
If you have a newborn or young children an at home session might be the best place to have your family pictures taken!
It can be stressful to take newborns and young children to a location for pictures. Having photos taken in your own home can drastically reduce stress for both the parents and children. No worries about travel, diapers, snacks, restrooms! Need to feed the baby? No worries! Toddler feels uncomfortable in new places? They feel perfectly at ease in their own homes!
Weather yucky out? Inside is nice and warm (or nice and cool in the summer). Rain and wind are not issues to worry about.
In Home Photography can be for traditional studio style pictures but can also be done as what is called is “Lifestyle Photography”. I have a blog post that goes into more detail about lifestyle photography, but in summary lifestyle photography is a relaxed form of photography that is not formally posed, but is full of interactions. You can read books and play with a toddler, snuggle on the couch, be on the bed, feed a baby, bake in the kitchen, etc. Lifestyle Photography captures real life interaction and moments in the environment where the family lives.
