Wedding at For-Lou Farms
The forecast had promised rain all day, and while the rain held off for some of the day, during Jacob and Laney’s ceremony, it poured.
But inside the Hay Loft at For-Lou Farms, they stood hand in hand with their eyes closed while their guests stood around them and “What a Beautiful Name” filled the old dairy barn. The rain beat down outside, but no one in that room was thinking about the weather. They were worshiping.
That moment told the story of Jacob and Laney’s entire wedding day. The weather changed their plans, but it never changed the meaning. They were there to become husband and wife, to honor the God who brought them together, and to begin a marriage centered on Jesus.
A Love Story That Began in Just 24 Hours
Laney was not expecting to meet her husband when she created a Facebook Dating profile on a dare. In fact, she only planned to leave it up for 24 hours. Somehow, in that brief window, she met Jacob.
As they began messaging, one thing stood out to both of them: their shared love for Jesus. Neither of them had necessarily gone online expecting to find a spouse, but they quickly recognized something different in one another.
Their first date began at Maggiano’s and continued at Topgolf. They talked, laughed, and connected in a way neither of them had experienced before. By the end of that first date, they both knew they wanted another one. More than that, they each began to realize they had found the person they wanted to spend their life with.
Their relationship grew through church dates, coffee and Bible study dates, traveling, golfing, pickleball, workouts, walks, and time with the family and friends they both love so much. It also grew across the miles. After living through a long distance relationship, one of the things they anticipated most about marriage was simply being together. They were ready to become one and begin the everyday work of loving and serving each other.
Pink, Navy, and Thoughtful Wedding Details
Laney has always loved pink, so she chose it as one of their wedding colors and let Jacob choose the other. He chose navy blue. Together, the colors felt joyful, classic, and completely right for them.
The bridesmaids wore different shades and styles of pink, creating a soft collection of color rather than one perfectly matched look. The night before the wedding, Laney and her bridesmaids gathered to make their own bouquets. It was not simply a wedding task. It was another memory made with the women who have walked beside her.
Laney’s gown was beautiful, with a delicate floral texture that added interest without overwhelming her. Jacob wore black while his groomsmen wore navy, tying their wedding colors together in a timeless way. But the beauty of the day was never only in the details. It was in the people attached to them.
A First Touch and a Prayer Before the Ceremony
Jacob and Laney chose not to see each other before the ceremony. Instead, they shared a first touch. Without looking at one another, they reached for each other’s hands and prayed together.
We stood far enough away that their words remained private, as they should have. What mattered was not hearing the prayer. What mattered was seeing where they turned before making their vows. Before they stood together in front of everyone they loved, they first stood before God.

Jacob and Laney had hoped to hold their ceremony outside, but the rain began falling hard enough that moving indoors was clearly the right decision. One of the gifts of For-Lou Farms is that the venue provides separate indoor spaces for both a ceremony and reception. The historic Hay Loft became a warm, intimate place for their vows while the rain poured outside.
Both Jacob and Laney invited a pastor from their own home church to participate in the ceremony. Each pastor had played a pivotal role in their life and spiritual growth, so having both pastors stand with them felt especially meaningful. It honored the individual stories that had shaped Jacob and Laney before God brought those stories together.
They exchanged vows, shared communion together, and invited everyone to stand for worship. Jacob and Laney held hands and closed their eyes as the recorded words of “What a Beautiful Name” filled the barn. Their families and friends stood with them, not simply watching a wedding ceremony, but worshiping alongside them.
Before the wedding, Jacob and Laney said they wanted their guests to see Jesus through them and through their wedding day. They hoped people would leave wanting to place God at the center of their own relationships. That hope was not hidden in a small detail or briefly mentioned in a prayer. It shaped the entire ceremony.

When Rain Changes the Wedding Day Plans
The rain continued through the ceremony, family photographs, wedding party pictures, and much of the couple’s portrait time. It was not a light sprinkle. At times, it poured.
So we adjusted. We used the character and warmth inside the barn, watched for breaks in the weather, and eventually stepped outside with umbrellas for a few portraits in the rain. Jacob and Laney never treated the change of plans like a ruined day. They embraced what the day gave them and remained full of joy.
Joy matters. A wedding does not become meaningful because everything happens exactly as planned. It becomes meaningful because two people know why they are there, and Jacob and Laney knew.

Families and Friendships That Helped Build Their Foundation
Family and friendship are central to both Jacob and Laney, and that was evident throughout their wedding. Jacob and his brother, Josh, are incredibly close. Josh served as best man, but the title did not fully describe the relationship between them. They are brothers and best friends. Josh’s emotion surfaced several times throughout the day, and his toast made it clear how deeply he loves Jacob and how much this marriage meant to him.
Laney’s matrons of honor, Abbie and Ashlyn, also spoke with the kind of warmth that comes from friendships built over time. Laney’s dad, Terry, shared meaningful words before the meal. Again and again, the toasts returned to Jacob and Laney’s faith, their character, and the way God has worked through their relationship.
One of the sweetest surprises came when Laney dedicated her bouquet to her mom, Chantell. She also honored Jacob’s mom, Christy, with another bouquet. The flowers she had made with her bridesmaids the night before became a way to thank two women who had loved, supported, and prayed for them.
A Joyful Reception in the Milking Parlor
Guests gathered in the air conditioned Milking Parlor for dinner from City BBQ, heartfelt toasts, and plenty of laughter. Couple trivia turned the process of releasing tables for dinner into a game, giving everyone a very good reason to know the answers. Later, Jacob and Laney played the shoe game, bringing even more laughter to the reception.
By the time dancing began, the rain had eased enough for guests to spread outside and enjoy the evening around the barn. What had looked like an all day washout became a gallery filled with variety: the warmth of the historic barn, quiet indoor portraits, umbrellas in the rain, laughter at the reception, and guests enjoying the farm after the rain had eased.
What Will Matter Most About This Wedding Day
Years from now, I do not think the rain will be the first thing Jacob and Laney remember about the day they became husband and wife.
I think they will remember reaching for each other’s hands before the ceremony and praying without seeing one another. They will remember the pastors who helped shape their faith standing beside them as they made their vows. They will remember taking communion, closing their eyes during worship, and standing with the people they loved as worship filled the barn.
They will remember Josh’s tears, the words spoken by their families and friends, the bouquets given to their moms, and the joy of realizing their long distance season was finally over. The rain was part of their wedding story, but it was never the heart of it. The heart was a young couple who believed God brought them together and wanted the first day of their marriage to point back to Him.
Jacob and Laney, thank you for trusting Myah and me to preserve this day for you. It was an honor to witness the joy, faith, and love surrounding you. May you continue to serve one another, laugh together, worship together, and build a marriage that keeps Jesus at the center for all the years ahead.
